We support individuals and businesses with education, training and with employment opportunities.  We run many training courses to support businesses in IT, health and safety, marketing, business development, finance and more.

MNC can help you with your business start-up or development.  We can run and host a combination of services including business meetings.

We host business events and have links with other business groups, partners and agencies in the region.

The Centre has a mix of tenants and regular hirers who can also support businesses and other organisations including clubs, charities and social enterprises.

Copeland Work and Skills Partnership Programme Review 2019/20

Groundwork NE & Cumbria

MNC work in partnership with Groundwork NE & Cumbria with helping people into employment and with assisting with learning opportunities.

Kick Start Programme starting in 2020: Groundwork NE & Cumbria can help companies to take advantage of salary subsidies for six months including pension and NI costs when recruiting 16-24 year olds who are on Universal Credit.  A training budget is also included.  They will make the arrangements and handle the administration as they are agents for the scheme.  Companies/employers get to choose the individual (s).

MNC will support people considering self employment or starting their own business.  Free courses are available with Cumbria Chamber of Commerce (currently online training).  There is also a range of business support (including free online business start-up courses) available from Cumbria Growth Hub summarised on their website at

Inspira are also offering free courses with the ‘Entry into self-employment programme’ – a four week course covering:

  • Setting up a business plan
  • Financial planning
  • Marketing
  • Setting up a website/Facebook page
  • Understanding sales and customer service
  • The legal side of setting up a business and business registration
  • Five months 1:1 support after completing the course

Other services offered by MNC:

  • Food Pantry There is a food pantry 2 days a week – Tuesdays and Thursdays
  • Charity Shop: Our charity shop ‘Millom Community Market’ is at 17 Newton Street in Millom selling a wide variety of great value goods.  We often advertise goods on Facebook including furniture that is too large for the shop.  We are grateful to all who donate to our shop.
  • PAT Testing: we provide PAT testing to businesses
  • Van services: hire van with driver/helper e.g. to support house moves and clearances

MNC welcomes agencies and new partners to use the centre for delivery and local businesses in offering their premises/equipment for specific work based training/recruitment training.

Safety during Covid-19 pandemic:  Where possible and subject to government guidance, MNC will continue to run most services following safe procedures and with specific risk assessments of activities involved.  There are hygiene stations throughout and visitors/users are asked to wear masks on entering/leaving premises and where social distancing cannot be maintained.  Many of our classes have been reduced in size and room layouts adjusted to facilitate safe participation.  Customers are asked to sign in on entry and provide contact details in the interests of facilitating ‘track and trace’ should this be required.  A notice is available at point of entry with a QR code that can be scanned on your NHS track and trace app.
